Holiday Smackdown: Christmas vs Easter

By: The Baron

I've always wondered why--pagan and secular influences aside--Christmas turned out to be the major Christian holiday of the year rather than Easter.

What if the Church Were a Business?

By: Eric Nielson

Over my years as a member of the church, I have occasionally heard someone say something like this: “If the church were a business, it would go bankrupt.” Or “If the church were a company it would go out of business”. What they have meant by this is that there are a lot of members or ‘employees’ who do not bother to show up. And if they do show up, they do not do very much. Thus, they feel that the church is full of slackers who do not pull their own weight. And a company or business could not be successful under such circumstances. In a way these folks have a point. We could all do better or more than we do. But I also feel that we can often beat up ourselves, and others, unnecessarily. So I would like to refute this idea.

Taking Christ out of Christmas

By: Starfoxy

In the past I've taken cues from my parents and bemoaned the commercialization of Christmas. I've lamented how quickly the birth of Christ is forgotten among the gifts and festivities. These days, however, I'm seriously considering cutting my losses and completely separating my recognition of Christ's birth from the midwinter celebrations.

The Politics of (Ward) Choice

By: The Baron

Everyone knows Church members can't actually choose which ward they attend--you go to the ward which covers the geographical location where you live , and you just deal with it.

That is, Church members except for *me*...

How we know what we know

By: Belladonna

Human beings develop knowledge and beliefs about truth based on several different factors. Does it matter HOW you know what you know?
