STRENGTH TO ENDURE

By: Belladonna

I recently read the historical novel "Strength to Endure" by Tristi Pinkston.  I was thoroughly engaged by this book.

Pinkston was awarded a certificate of honor for this book from the League of Utah Writers.  I'd say she definitely earned it.  As noted in other reviews, the LDS elements of the book are clearly there, but never fully take front stage.  The power of the book is in the believable characters and the relationships.   For that matter, the hollocaust elements of the novel, while carefully researched, seemed to me to be merely backdrop of conflict that could have been any other place or any other time.  What this story gave me was a glimpse into how people deal with the events life brings them - some well, some not so well.  It was a reminder that the MEANING we give to the challenges we face and how we choose to respond to them is often more critical that what particular sort of adversity does or does not come our way.

It was a delicious read.
