"Milk before Meat" is how the axiom goes--see
1st Corinthians 3:2. Not so in the blogosphere, where largely we view ourselves as full-fledged carnivores looking for the juiciest steaks we can find.
Or perhaps not. It came to me one day as I was sitting in a recent Sunday School class...
There is no 'meat' in the gospel.
Or rather, rephrasing:
the milk *is* the meat.
Just like
"All I Ever Really Needed to Know I Learned In Kindergarten", one can truthfully say "All I Ever Really Needed to Know About The Gospel I Learned In Primary". Probably as a Sunbeam.
What is there to the gospel, really, other than what's in the first four
articles of faith? There's a reason that Alma's early church was commanded to
"preach nothing save it were repentance and faith on the Lord". At its heart the gospel of Jesus Christ is fundamentally simple.
Now, I like intellectually stimulating Bloggernacle posts and discussions just as much as anyone--I've been here in the LDS blogging community for 4 1/2 years now. But let's realize that most Bloggernacle posts are not 'meat', they are the brand of steak sauce you put on the side: optional, largely irrelevant, and often lacking in any true nutritional value.
Still, it's fun...and, on occasion, enlighening and inspiring as well. But definitely not a replacement for Sunday School and the true 'meat' of the gospel.
